The largest seawater desalination project has a daily production capacity of 200,000 tons. According to the report, Tianjin has the largest seawater desalination production capacity, reaching 317,200 tons, and three coastal provinces, Hebei, Shandong, and Zhejiang, have production capacities exceeding 100,000 tons.
The report states that seawater desalination projects are distributed in nine coastal provinces and cities, mainly in coastal cities and islands suffering from severe water shortages. The city is located in the southwestern part of Shouguang County, with geographical coordinates at approximately 36°52′ N latitude and 118°44′ E longitude. It is well-connected by roads and railways to various parts of China, with a straight-line distance of 400 kilometers to Beijing, 165 kilometers to Jinan, 37.5 kilometers to Weifang, 31 kilometers to Qingzhou, 35.5 kilometers to Guangrao County, and 20.5 kilometers to Changle County.
It borders Hanting District to the east for 24.4 kilometers, Qingzhou City to the west for 9.2 kilometers, the junction of Changle and Qingzhou cities to the south for 16.8 kilometers, and Guangrao County to the north for 42.48 kilometers. The geological strata in the area primarily consist of the Quaternary system, with the top layer being loess, followed by gravel-bearing clay layers. The thickness of this layer varies from 50 to 300 meters. Below this, the Neogene system includes greenish-black basalt, brown claystone, and sandstone, with a layer of red conglomerate at the bottom, exceeding 200 meters in thickness. The upper part of the Cambrian system features greenish-gray fine sandstone, followed by reddish-brown claystone and sandstone, with another layer of red conglomerate at the bottom, also exceeding 200 meters in thickness. The Cambrian system consists of gray limestone, with intercalations of greenish-yellow mudstone and laminated limestone, and the southeastern part of the county has Upper Neogene to Upper Miocene strata.
